New Zealand mass murderer Tarrant A white supremacist who denounced immigrants as invaders

The suspect, Brenton Harrison Tarrant, appeared in court Saturday, charged with one count of murder.

Tarrant was handcuffed and wearing a white prison jumpsuit when he walked into the courtroom. Tarrant did not apply to have the judge suppress his name from the media, Australian broadcaster ABC reports.

New South Wales state Police Commissioner Mick Fuller said his officers are investigating to help New Zealand police and to ensure the safety of residents in the Australian state where suspect Brenton Tarrant is from. Many, such as the alt-right, are hidden in plain sight, with their proponents given a platform on social media websites - including Facebook, on which one of the terrorists in New Zealand live-streamed his rampage - as well as mainstream Western news outlets. In gruesome video footage, which The Post is not publishing, the attacker approaches the entrance to the mosque and raises his weapon.

An Aberdeen man who fled for his life after chaos erupted all around him in the wake of the New Zealand terrorist attack said he fell into a "complete panic" soon after the shooting began.

Two other people have been arrested in connection with the terror attack, and they remain in custody as police conduct an ongoing investigation as to their possible involvement.

Ms Ardern visited a local mosque to reach out to the Muslims communities, and flagged an immediate change to New Zealand's gun laws. The alleged gunman obtained a gun license in November 2017.

Two of the guns were semi-automatic weapons and two were shotguns, she said, before telling media members that the attack would have an impact on gun laws in the country.

None of those arrested had a criminal history or was on any watchlist in New Zealand or Australia.

There was a heavy police presence at the hospital where families of the wounded had gathered. Christchurch Hospital continued to care for 36 wounded in the shootings, including 11 critically injured.

Funerals were planned on Saturday for some of the victims, several who were born overseas.

The Christchurch attacker could have killed even more people as he was on the move at the time of his arrest, and had more firearms in his vehicle, New Zealand's PM said, praising police who responded to the call in just 36 minutes.

The shooter broke into two mosques in Christchurch on Friday, opening fire on those who were inside.

"This is an attack on the entire community". The suspect appeared to be a white supremacist motivated by USA -based extremism, having posted a manifesto online declaring his hatred for Muslims and idolizing US extremist movements. I think it's a small group of people that have very, very serious problems.

Senior police officers led by counter terrorism chief Mick Willing met on Friday to assess the threat in Australia and how best to assist their counterparts in New Zealand. One man tries to greet him calmly, calling out "Hello, brother".

Tarrant seemed "as normal as anyone else" and had "certainly" never mentioned anything about his beliefs about Muslims, the club's vice president, Scott Williams, said.

Political across Asia and the Middle East voiced concern over the targeting of Muslims.

The suspected gunman who killed dozens of people in New Zealand is an Australian "racist eco-fascist" who posted a 74-page manifesto online before the shootings and described Donald Trump as a "symbol of white supremacy".

New Zealand's Prime Minister, Jacinda Ardern, said the gunman meant to continue his attack if he hadn't been stopped. The inverse of this phenomenon is, of course, that it gives oxygen to the propaganda machine of radical fringe elements spreading hatred against the West and religious minorities in Muslim countries, thus perpetuating an unending cycle of hate.

"He had a big gun.He came and started shooting everyone in the mosque, everywhere", said the man, Ahmad Al-Mahmoud. "There were three in the hallway, at the door leading into the mosque, and people inside the mosque", he said.
