India’s fugitive billionaire Nirav Modi found in London living lavishly in plain sight
The government can not extradite Nirav Modi just because he has been spotted in London, Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) Spokesperson, Raveesh Kumar, told ANI in an interview. Both have looted India and are called Modi.
While the Indian government is trying tooth and nail to capture the fugitive diamantaire Nirav Modi, he appeared to be living and roaming freely in the UK's capital city London in a slightly new avatar.
In December past year, the Debt Recovery Tribunal (DRT) served notice to Nirav Modi, his family members and his companies to recover over Rs 7,000 crore owed to Punjab National Bank (PNB).
Punjab National Bank, India's second-largest state-run bank, in 2018 said that two jewellery groups headed by Modi and his uncle Mehul Choksi had defrauded it of about $2.2 billion by raising credit from other Indian banks using illegal guarantees issued by rogue PNB staff.

They will then have an expanded bilateral meeting, . where we will once again see the key North Korea-U.S. delegates in one frame. After holding a working lunch, the two leaders plan to sign a joint statement around 2 p.m.
The video shows Nirav Modi sporting a handle-bar moustache and wearing an expensive jacket, repeatedly saying "no comments" to a series of questions put to him by the newspaper's reporter, including whether he has sought asylum in the United Kingdom.
The ED has till date attached properties worth Rs 4,765 crore of Choksi and Nirav Modi. Later, India asked Britain to extradite him after reports said he had entered that country.
On Friday, hours before details about Nirav's whereabouts and life in London emerged, authorities demolished his seaside bungalow in Alibaug through a controlled explosion. He has also been in contact with a wealth management company based in west London, which specialises in advice to rich foreigners. The Telegraph has also learned from a source in the British government that Nirav has been assigned a National Insurance number by the Department for Work & Pensions, and he is able to operate online bank accounts in the UK. "It is not clear why the British government has given him a national insurance number and yet has apparently failed to act on the Interpol red notice".
