Kevin Spacey faces charges from 2016
Lawyers for Kevin Spacey entered a not guilty plea on his behalf in MA court on Monday on charges he groped an 18-year-old busboy in 2016.
Kevin Spacey is in court. During a nine-minute hearing, Spacey was ordered to stay away from and have no contact with the alleged victim or his family.
In a recent hearing to determine if there was enough evidence for Spacey to be charged, Spacey's lawyers questioned a MA state trooper about the video. On Monday, the judge granted a defense request to preserve cellphone evidence and set a preliminary hearing date for March 4. The judge agreed to waive Spacey's right to appear at that hearing at the downtown Nantucket courthouse, but he must be reachable by phone.
At a probable cause hearing in Nantucket County Court on December 20, Spacey's attorney said the accuser's story had inconsistencies and even acted out the incident to illustrate his point, according to audio of the hearing, which was first published by The Boston Globe.
Spacey's alleged victim was working as a bus boy for the summer in Nantucket and had remained in the bar after his shift finished to see his hero.
The 18-year-old said he told the actor he was a 23-year-old college student.
"By reporting the sexual assault, my client is a determined and encouraging voice for those victims not yet ready to report being sexually assaulted", the alleged victim's lawyer, Mitchell Garabedian, retorted.
In addition to the Nantucket case, two other investigations are underway in Los Angeles and London, where Spacey served as artistic director of the prestigious Old Vic theater from 2004 to 2015. She said her son fled the restaurant when Spacey went to the bathroom.
Ex-Boeing executive replaces Mattis at Pentagon
Three days later, Trump said he was replacing Mattis with the second-ranking defense official, Pat Shanahan, on New Year's Day. In the letter, Mattis said he would step down February 28, but Trump later accelerated that to the end of the year.
It is the first case against him to be prosecuted since a number of sex assault and harassment claims were made at the end of 2017. He faces a single charge of indecent assault and battery, which carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison. At the same time, his lawyers requested that he be able to skip the first day in court to avoid heightening "the negative publicity already generated in connection with the case".
On Christmas Eve, Spacey, 59, posted a video contesting the allegations.
His career offers dried up after he was accused by actor Anthony Rapp in 2017 of making a sexual advance on him in 1986 when Mr Rapp was 14 years old. One former production assistant told CNN that Spacey sexually assaulted him during one of the show's early seasons.

The source cited information that came directly from senior Israeli military officers with direct knowledge of the attack. Syria's air defences have repelled a missile attack on Damascus suburbs on Tuesday, Syrian state television reported.
Arsenal without Ozil against Liverpool
Mane made it 3-1 on 32 minutes when Salah cushioned a cross perfectly into the Senegalese's path to side-foot high into the net. They led Liverpool by two points at the start of this month and were yet to lose in the Premier League this season.
Pochettino demands consistency from title-chasing Spurs
It was beaten 5-1 at Manchester United just before Christmas and was also thrashed 5-0 by Man City at home in September. The 29-year old completed three dribbles and showed his willingness to burst forward against Cardiff City on Tuesday.
John Kelly breaks with Trump: 'To be honest, it's not a wall'
Trump also sought to push back against Democratic arguments that a border wall is an antiquated approach to illegal immigration. The president shut down the government, demanding $5 billion for his border wall but Democrats have refused to meet the demand.
