Shanahan, a business executive who has spent the last 30-plus years at Boeing, represents a break from Mattis in not having any particularly strong ideological views.

Mattis submitted his resignation on December 20 after a series of policy disagreements with Trump, including the president's decision to withdraw troops from Syria. Mattis resigned on Dec 20 following a disagreement with Trump over his plan to withdraw American troops from Syria and Afghanistan.

The tweet did not go down well with Manchester United stalwart Gary Neville, who tweeted back telling Pogba to "do one as well". Ole Gunnar Solskjaer hopes to be managing Manchester United beyond this season. "I'll take time getting to know them".

Shanahan said he's committed to carrying out President Trump's vision at the Pentagon, which includes protecting Taiwan and the South China Sea from Chinese military aggression.

Mattis chose to leave his post after clashing with Trump and his plan to begin pulling American troops from Syria, but Shanahan's Tuesday statement reads with a slightly more agreeable tone.

Trump discussed 'slow & highly coordinated' exit from Syria with
He said up to 15,000 Syrian fighters trained in Turkey are ready to take part in the operation. Erdogan went on to say: "In Syria, it is a matter of freedom and its territorial integrity".

While White House officials have denied reports that Trump also has ordered half of the 14,000 USA troops in Afghanistan to come home, Trump made it clear he has run out of patience for what's become the longest United States war. "We're not talking about vast wealth", Trump said. In the letter, Mattis said he would step down February 28, but Trump later accelerated that to the end of the year. Mattis and other Trump advisers tried unsuccessfully to persuade Trump to stay in Syria long enough to ensure that the Islamic State group, which has largely been defeated on the battlefield, can not regroup. Three days later, Trump said he was replacing Mattis with the second-ranking defense official, Pat Shanahan, on New Year's Day. This included naming David Norquist, the Pentagon's comptroller, to perform deputy defence secretary duties provisionally as well as retaining his current title.

In that context, Shanahan said the Pentagon leaders should remember, "China, China, China", according to one official, who was not authorized to publicly discuss internal defense meetings and spoke on condition of anonymity. It emphasizes the importance of great power competition with Russian Federation and China, after America's many years of fighting insurgent wars in the Middle East.

Sarri On Hazard's Future: We Need To Solve The Problem
Introducing an inexperienced player at a time when a club is not on top is rare. "It's a rule so we have to respect it". Will I sit down with him? "It is not a serious problem but I don't know if he will be able to play in the next match".

Shanahan's focus on China will be in lock-step with President Trump and other members of the Trump administration, who have taken on China as the top economic threat to the country's future.
