Oprah Stumps For Stacey Abrams In Georgia, Ignores Mike Pence’s “This Ain’t Hollywood” Nattering Nearby
Stacey Abrams, Georgia's Democratic nominee for governor, lashed out against Republican challenger Brian Kemp on Sunday over his office's 11th-hour claim that Democrats had attempted to hack into the state's voter registration system.
Abrams faces off against Georgia Secretary of State Brian Kemp (R). "I'm here today because of Stacey Abrams", Winfrey said.
Libertarian candidate Ted Metz has 1 percent support, while 2 percent are undecided.
Abrams would be the first black female governor in USA history. It goes on to compare the gubernatorial candidate to a "poor man's Aunt Jemimah" who "white women can be tricked into voting for, especially the fat ones".
"These automated calls are being sent into homes just days before President Trump arrives, reminding voters exactly who is promoting a political climate that celebrates this kind of vile, poisonous thinking", said Abrams' spokeswoman Abigail Collazo. "This is the South. People have been really wonderful and really optimistic about Stacey Abrams".
"I think we've made great progress, particularly at the individual polling stations and with the tabulations of votes", Warner said.
"Stacey Abrams is being bankrolled by Hollywood liberals", Mr Pence said.
More high-profile visits are planned, with former President Barack Obama coming to Atlanta Friday for Abrams and President Donald Trump campaigning Sunday for Kemp.
The Georgia gubernatorial race had already been fraught with a race-laden debate over ballot access and voter suppression. But after her speech, in a sit-down interview with Abrams - reminiscent of the 25-year television run of her daytime television show - she noted they were "just two women from MS".
Kemp told the packed crowd of supporters that the race for governor was a simple choice: one between continued economic prosperity under Republican leadership, or a turn to "socialism" under Democrats. He's banking on running up wide margins outside metro Atlanta and holding most of the GOP votes closer to the city.
