Alok Verma petition in Supreme Court LIVE updates: CJI-led bench to hear plea of exiled CBI chief today

Breaking : SC Directs CVC To Complete Enquiry Against Alok Verma In Two Weeks Under Supervision Of Justice AK Patnaik, Nageswara Rao Can't Take Any Policy Decisions

It directed CBI to submit a list of all decisions taken by Rao before the court in a sealed cover on the next date of hearing, November 12.

Former Supreme Court Judge A K Patnaik, who denounced CBI as a "caged parrot", will oversee the CVC enquiry against CBI Director Alok Verma.

In a dramatic midnight action, the government on Tuesday divested CBI chief Verma of his charge and made Joint Director M. Nageshwar Rao the interim director.

On Friday, the bench also refused to hear Senior Advocate Mukul Rohatgi on Mr. Asthana's challenge to the Central government order of October 23 sending him on leave- "we can not hear you on something not before us".

Golden State Warriors: 3 takeaways from 2018-19 season opener
Schroder ran the point effectively, creating shots for his guys, and chipping in 21 points, six assists, and nine rebounds. I think that last year was the year to beat the Warriors out West. "Last year at times it was a struggle for us".

Patnaik, as chief justice of Madhya Pradesh High Court, was also a member of "In-House committee" of the apex court that probed allegations against Justice Soumitra Sen of the Calcutta High Court.

In Chandigarh, police said they had to use water cannons against the agitators and also suspend traffic for some time around the area of protest.

The Congress has alleged Rafale link in the government decision to divest CBI Director Verma of his duties, but the government has rejected these allegations. The supervision is a "one-time exception felt necessary in the peculiar facts of the case and should not be understood to be casting any reflection on any authority of the government", the court said.

Addressing the gathering of Congress protesters earlier in the day, Gandhi accused PM Modi of destroying institutions such as the CBI, the Election Commission and the Enforcement Directorate.

More disruption expected as Storm Callum batters UK
If officially named by Met Office and Met Eireann, Friday's storm will be the third of the season and be named Storm Callum . They warn of "strong southeast, veering southwest, coinciding with high spring tides on Thursday night and Friday morning".

The Court has issued notice to the Centre, the CVC and Mr. Asthana on the petitions. But his petition was not heard on Friday and will be entertained in due course.

Senior Advocate Fali Nariman is appearing for Alok Verma, while Senior Advocate Dushyant Dave will represent Common Cause.

The government suspended Verma and his second-in-command Rakesh Asthana on Wednesday, pending an inquiry. The government would face a major embarrassment even if the Supreme Court does not reinstate Alok Verma but dilutes the government's order.

Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge has said that India is seeing "turbulent times", which can be traced directly to the "whimsical and bizarre" decisions of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He also cited Vineet Narain judgment to support Verma's plea.

Verizon Pixel 3, Best Buy causing some confusion, annoyance
Google didn't reveal the switching between the two South Korean companies for making the display panels of its Pixel 3 models. When asked specifically if this means that they have removed the lock on Pixel 3 phones, they confirmed that to be the case.

Kharge said it is not easy to function as a writer, academic or a political leader "under a vindictive and authoritative government that we see today in India".
