President Donald Trump said Monday that he is sending Secretary of State Mike Pompeo to meet with Saudi King Salman amid the mounting worldwide backlash over missing Washington Post columnist Jamal Khashoggi.

Khashoggi, a journalist and columnist for The Washington Post, has been missing since he entered the Saudi Consulate in Istanbul on Oct 2.

Flake said if the Saudis did, in fact, kill Khashoggi, Congress might specifically curtail USA military aid to Saudi-led forces in Yemen.

The Foreign Office spokesman responding to a query about Pakistan's stance on the issue said "we understand that the investigation was ongoing and it would therefore be appropriate to await the outcome".

One source says the report will likely conclude that the operation was carried out without clearance and transparency and that those involved will be held responsible.

State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert said Mr Trump was sending Mr Pompeo to Riyadh because "determining what happened to Jamal Khashoggi is something of great importance to the President". "And he firmly denies that".

Turkish officials say they fear Saudi agents killed and dismembered Jamal Khashoggi after he entered the consulate in Istanbul almost two weeks ago. The reports say Khashoggi turned on the sound recording capability on his device as he entered the Saudi consulate, and that the watch was connected to the iCloud and cell phone he left with his fiancee, Hatice Cengiz, before he went inside.

White House economic adviser Larry Kudlow said Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin still plans to attend a previously scheduled Saudi conference this week to address terrorist financing, but those plans could change as the investigation progresses. "This, I think, depends on the crown prince".

The case has provoked an worldwide outcry against Saudi Arabia, the world's top oil exporter, with more media and business executives pulling out of a planned investment conference there this month. It had been claimed that Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman - the son of King Salman of Saudi Arabia - is considering bidding for the Glazer family's private shares in United.

ET Monday about 105 miles (170 kilometers) east-southeast of Cozumel, Mexico, and moving to the north at about 4 mph (6 kph). Michael strengthened into a Hurricane earlier today and a significant Gulf of Mexico swell event now looks very likely.

The Saudis "have to be aware that if they move forward with the conference, the story will be 'nobody showed up, '" the source said. "Nobody's seen it yet, so we do want to see it. we're going to be seeing it very soon".

Meanwhile on Monday, a team of Turkish and Saudi investigators entered the Saudi Consulate in Istanbul, the Associated Press reported.

They include the CEO of Uber, a company in which Saudi Arabia has invested billions of dollars; billionaire Richard Branson; JPMorgan Chase & Co.

Saudi Arabia agreed last week to allow Turkish officials to conduct a search but insisted it would only be a superficial "visual" inspection.

Trump said he had spoken with King Salman of Saudi Arabia, who denied any knowledge of Khashoggi.
