Kavanaugh accuser said to be willing to testify before US Senate committee

President Donald Trump says "a little delay" may be needed on an upcoming Senate Judiciary Committee vote on the Supreme Court nomination of Judge Brett Kavanaugh.

Ford said in the interview with the newspaper that Kavanaugh threw her down on a bed, grinding his body against hers and trying to pull off her one-piece bathing suit and the clothing she was wearing over it. Ford said that when she tried to scream, he put his hand over her mouth.

In a statement provided by the White House, Kavanaugh denied the allegation. Christine Blasey Ford, a college professor who teaches clinical psychology at Palo Alto University, has identified herself in an exclusive interview with the Washington Post.

Demand Justice, one of the leading anti-Kavanaugh groups on the left, told ABC News Monday that they are planning a $700,000 television and digital advertising blitz in four states, Alaska, Colorado, Maine and Nevada, that will focus on Dr. Ford's allegations.

"For too long, when woman (sic) have made serious allegations of abuse, they have been ignored", the New York Democrat said. Grassley said he will continue working on a way to hear from Ford "in an appropriate, precedented and respectful manner".

Katz denied that her client's letter was politically motivated. Chuck Grassley of Iowa, was trying to arrange separate, follow-up calls with Kavanaugh and Ford, but just for aides to Grassley and Sen.

Democrats have been bitterly opposed to Trump's choice of Kavanaugh for the nation's highest court.

The utility said it was "working with the appropriate authorities to investigate this incident in order to understand its cause". Not all of the fires have been fully extinguished yet, Mayor Dan Rivera said at a 00:30 local (04:30 GMT) press conference.

Democrats, led by Minority Leader Chuck Schumer of NY, called for a delay in the vote, and two committee Republicans - all 11 on the GOP side are men - Sens. She said she escaped after Kavanaugh's friend, Mark Judge, jumped on them.

Debra Katz, an attorney for Ford, said Monday that Ford is willing to testify about her accusations before the Senate Judiciary Committee.

"I've been friends with Brett Kavanaugh for over 35 years, and dated him during high school", said one of the women, Maura Kane.

A spokesperson for the Koch-backed Americans for Prosperity, which has already spent heavily on pro-Kavanaugh ads, said in a statement Monday that "any allegation of this type should be taken seriously, however, we are not going to speculate on media reports".

While Ford initially sought to keep her allegation confidential, she said she opted to go public once the allegation emerged in the public eye and reporters began pursuing her. This is very significant for a man of character and integrity to be spoken about so highly by women who maybe didn't vote for President Trump, who maybe don't call themselves Republicans, certainly, in fact, many who don't.

Kavanaugh had been on a smooth confirmation track, but the new allegations have roiled that process. Their fellow committee member Rhode Island Democratic Sen.

The Judiciary Committee is scheduled to vote Thursday on Kavanaugh's nomination.

The father was taken to New Hanover Regional Medical Center for treatment, where no update was provided on his condition. When they got to the home, the woman was deceased, Chad McEwen, assistant county manager for Pender County, said.

Democrats are desperate to block Kavanaugh's appointment because they believe he could help overturn Roe vs Wade, the landmark ruling that protects legal access to abortion, as well as protections for racial minorities, unions and the environment.

Ford went public with her allegation in an article published by The Washington Post on Sunday.

"Her recollection of these events is crystal clear", Ford's attorney Lisa Banks told Morning Edition.

On Sunday evening, a pair of outgoing Republican senators said outright that the Senate Judiciary Committee should not vote on Kavanaugh's nomination until they talk to his accuser.

Democrats immediately called for a delay in a key committee vote set for this later week and a Republican on the closely divided panel said he was "not comfortable" voting on the nomination without first hearing from the accuser.

Grassley said the standard procedure would be to conduct follow-up telephone calls with Kavanaugh and Ford, and that he meant to work with the senior Democrat on the committee, Senator Dianne Feinstein, to schedule the calls but that Democrats have refused to cooperate.
