Donald Trump: U.S. could move "very soon" to hit China with $200B in new tariffs

Stocks slide ahead of US-Canada trade talks; tech lags

The proposed tariffs follow 25% duties the Trump administration already has placed on $50 billion in goods from China, aimed at putting a stop to what the White House has said is China's theft of USA intellectual property, the forced transfer of American technology and cyberattacks on US computer networks.

President Donald Trump said Friday that he's prepared to impose tariffs on an additional $267 billion in Chinese imports.

Cell phones, the biggest US import from China, have so far been spared, but would be hit if Trump activates the new $267 billion tariff list.

The US government already imposed 25 percent tariffs on $34 billion of Chinese imports in July and another $16 billion last month. Because of this, the consumer will pay more for products from Apple, said the company.

"Semiconductors are America's fourth-largest export, and our industry has a global trade surplus of over $6 billion and a surplus with China of close to $2 billion in 2017", Intel's letter said. US stocks erased gains after Trump's remarks.

HiSilicon Kirin 980 announced
In addition, the Kirin 980 has a new way of implementing what's known in smartphone processor circles as "big little" processing. The HiSilicon Kirin 980 is the latest chipset from the company, which is the successor to the HiSilicon Kirin 970 SoC.

"I don't think this magnitude of tariffs has been priced into the markets", Lara Rhame, chief US economist at FS Investments, told Bloomberg Television in an interview. "Lower barriers, open markets, quit stealing IP and technology", he said, using an abbreviation for intellectual property.

Signs have been growing in recent weeks that Trump wants to focus his ire on China, which he has repeatedly accused of trading unfairly.

Meanwhile, Canada's top trade negotiator said she and her United States counterpart were making "very good progress" in talks to save the North American Free Trade Agreement.

"It's never too late to make good trade policy", Kudlow said in an interview on Bloomberg television. Such a step would significantly escalate his trade war with Beijing and would likely increase costs for a broad range of US businesses and consumers.

"I'm scared; I am overwhelmed", Mosee said.

The talks have been hung up over Canada's insistence on retaining a dispute resolution mechanism in Chapter 19, and the U.S. objections over Ottawa's tight controls over the dairy market.

The company noted it spent US$50 billion with 9,000 U.S. suppliers in its most recent fiscal year, including Texas-based chip firm Finisar Corp and Kentucky-based Corning Inc.

The trade war could inflict further damage if it rattles financial markets, thereby hurting business confidence and potentially discouraging investment.

There is a better way to do this. "There's no illusion here". Later, the magazine dropped Bannon from the festival lineup. "We would be honoured to have you", he writes at the end.

In the letter, Apple says the tariff list "covers a wide range of Apple products and the products used in our USA operations", including the Mac Mini, Apple power adaptors, cables, the Apple Watch, the Apple Pencil and Air Pods.
