French tennis players Alize Cornet has been issued a code violation for taking off her top at the US Open

A US Open official was criticized for imposing a sexist double standard when he reprimanded a player who took her shirt off briefly during a heat break.

During her first-round match against Johanna Larsson on Tuesday, Cornet took a brief heat-break.

Murray said: "Cornet came back to court after 10 minute heat break".

The Frenchwoman subsequently took it off and wore it the right way, much to the dismay of chair umpire who gave her a code violation.

Cornet went on to lose the match to Larsson in three sets, 6-4, 3-6, 2-6. After changing into this shirt she was given a code violation for the on-court wardrobe change.

Alienware Announces Upgraded Gaming Desktops With Nvidia RTX GPUs

Casey Dellacqua, a former Australian tennis player, replied to Murray's tweet, writing: "Ridiculous".

However, the decision led to claims of sexism and an outpouring of outrage on social media, with Billie Jean King saying "this rule is outdated and impractical" in a tweet Wednesday.

Cornet's code violation came during a scorcher in Flushing Meadows, Queens, on Tuesday.

"We regret that a code violation was assessed to Miss Cornet yesterday".

"Had her fresh shirt on back to front".

Anniversary of fatal Charlottesville rally puts city, D.C. on edge
Law enforcement officials say there will be a heavy police presence meant to deter any violence. One goal, he said, was to separate cars and pedestrians in the central part of the city.

Surprisingly, the umpire Christian Rask handed her a code violation, which drew heavy criticism from observers.

"It was not based on a WTA rule, as the WTA has no rule against a change of attire on court", the ruling body said in a statement.

"We have clarified the policy to ensure this will not happen moving forward". It was so sweltering at the US that the heat rule was in effect, permitting players to take 10-minutes breaks to try to cool off and drink water after their second sets. However, luckily, she was assessed a warning only and there was no further penalty above a warning.

The United States Tennis Association implemented the 10-minute break for players for safety precaution.

Male players frequently change or remove their shirts between games and sometimes sit shirtless for extended periods of time in their chairs during changeovers.
