Trump balloon appears before UK visit; embassy warns Americans to keep heads down

LONDON ― President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump touch down in London on Thursday for a working visit, and while his meeting schedule will keep him nearly exclusively outside of the capital, she will be spending some time in town.

Mr Trump is due to land this afternoon before attending a black-tie dinner at Blenheim Palace in his honour, where protesters will gather at the gates. Trump, though, will likely be gone from London before the demonstrations start Friday.

"Several of the events are expected to attract large crowds and there will be road closures in connection with those events", the statement said.

However, media coverage may well be dominated by footage of the "Trump baby" balloon as it soars above the iconic Houses of Parliament for a two-hour spell.

Permission for the float was issued by London Mayor Sadiq Khan, who has exchanged back-and-forth criticism with Trump.

It was announced last week that Trump will spend just one night in the capital.

"We have enough difficulty with the European Union".

"It's a disastrous and divisive time, and Trump is very much part of that", he said. The proposal was debated in Parliament, where Trump was heavily criticized.

Yet according to David Wemer of the Atlantic Council, a new U.S. -U.K. trade deal isn't a high priority for the Trump administration. But instead of attending business in London, which is what most heads of state who arrive in the United Kingdom do, Trump will head to a business sector gala at Blenheim Palace, the birthplace of Winston Churchill which is outside the city.
