LeBron James: Wait, he didn’t text Kevin Durant with tempting offer?
Despite the Palmdale, California, longstanding desire to play for the Los Angeles Lakers, OKC rolled the dice on a year of playing with Westbrook and being immersed in the Thunder culture to seal George's decision to stay as a free agent. But speculation is still rampant that James could sign with Lakers, considering he has a home in Los Angeles. However, James could still re-sign with Cleveland, although the strong current from national media is that he appears ready to move.
According to ESPN'sAdrian Wojnarowski, the Philadelphia 76ers are preparing to meet with the NBA's top free agent on the market, LeBron James, who opted out of his contract in Cleveland late last week, and his team of representatives on Sunday to make their pitch. With some savvy moves, the Lakers are poised to potentially add two superstars - James and Paul George and maybe Kawhi Leonard - to a team featuring up-and-coming talents like Kyle Kuzma, Brandon Ingram and Lonzo Ball. Their 16 National Basketball Association titles is second only to the Boston Celtics, and with hall of fame player and former Laker point guard Magic Johnson in charge, the Lakers are as enticing as ever to free agents.
James is also being pursued by the Lakers, who have enough salary-cap space to sign him and another star player.
The potential of a superteam in Los Angeles or a partnership with his close friend Chris Paul in Houston is appealing - but leaving Cleveland in free agency will come at a significant cost. That final year was the option James declined.
But there was one bright spot from Belgium defeat
Belgium's 1-0 win sent it into the side of the bracket containing four World Cup winners and Cristiano Ronaldo's Portugal. Former England defender Martin Keown told BBC Sport: "I'd have him in the team because of the balance he has".
In 2014, he returned to the Cavaliers after an in-person meeting with team owner Dan Gilbert. While there had been dialogue between Paul and Altman since the season ended, James had not given the team any sense of his plans. The Cavs can offer a five-year, $205 million max deal, while the Los Angeles Lakers have four years and $152 million on the table. The Sixers are also an elite defensive team, something that is often overlooked in the LeBron discussion. LeBron James to Los Angeles might not be the foregone conclusion many thought it would be last night.
James is a 14-time All-Star, a 14-time All-NBA selection, six-time All-Defense selection, a four-time MVP and three-time champion. That's made it tough for Cleveland to upgrade its roster, but the Cavs remain committed to bringing back James even for just one more year. While there was plenty of talk throughout the season about the prospect of James joining young stars Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons in Philadelphia, that talk has cooled in recent weeks.
Here's Why James Harden Won't Be Recruiting LeBron
The Los Angeles Lakers are highly invested in bolstering their roster with elite free agents this summer. Second-round picks differ from first-round selections in that they don't count against the salary cap.
He played all 82 regular-season games for the first time, averaging 27.5 points, 8.6 rebounds and a career-high 9.1 assists per game.
Gregg Popovich meets with disgruntled Kawhi Leonard
Leonard is under contract for two more seasons but can exercise a player option to become an unrestricted free agent next summer. The 26-year-old Leonard is reportedly angry over the handling of his injury and comments from Tony Parker and Popovich.
