Almost 600 Arrested in DC Amid Protests of 'Zero Tolerance' Immigration Policy

01 July 2018, 12:32 | Tara Lloyd

"Zero chance, It will never happen!"

Following widespread criticism for the policy's separation of children from families, President Donald Trump signed an executive order June 20 to keep families together. Temperatures are expected to rise into the 90s on Saturday in Washington, D.C., and across the Midwest, so protesters should prepare for the heat.

A federal judge has ordered families be reunited and the administration asked the military to house immigrant families, leading the Pentagon to mull the construction of soft-sided camp facilities.

It is not clear if or when the children already separated will be reunited with their parents.

Saturday's "Rally against Family Separation" begins with a morning march from City Hall to Boston Common, where a large rally will take place. "No family jails", said another.

When is the first day of summer?
English Heritage opens the site up every year for the solstice, giving people a rare chance to get up close to the monument. All this to mark the spot on the horizon where the sun returns each year to rest for a while before moving south again.

The rally will cap off a week of demonstrations in Washington that included a Wednesday march on the headquarters of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the arrests of 575 people Thursday at the Hart Office Building during a women-led sit-in.

"Forcibly separating children from their parents is not about 'deterrence, ' or the legal technicalities of law, or illegal immigration, or anything else President Trump has claimed to justify his latest and most odious outrage", the daily wrote. "We need to provide for these children", she said. "Family detention centers have been consistently found unsuitable and injurious for children".

Families Belong Together, a coalition that has advocated against the zero tolerance policy, is sponsoring the event.

Buzzfeed reported that five immigrant children in federal custody filed a lawsuit Friday against what they called the Trump administration's "cruel policies and practices that unlawfully prolong their detention and delay their reunification with their families".

"That is why I march today, to honor his sacrifice". Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.) joined the women on the floor, linking her arms with theirs in solidarity.

But there was one bright spot from Belgium defeat
Belgium's 1-0 win sent it into the side of the bracket containing four World Cup winners and Cristiano Ronaldo's Portugal. Former England defender Martin Keown told BBC Sport: "I'd have him in the team because of the balance he has".

"I'm a mom, and I think everyone I know that I've talked to about this issue has had a very visceral reaction", Sharaf said.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, the 28-year-old NY progressive who pulled off a stunning upset primary victory over high-ranking Rep. Joe Crowley (D-N.Y.) on Tuesday, has made ending ICE part of her platform.

Cries of "Shame!" rose up from crowds in both NY and Washington as the marches got underway.

Capitol Police arrested almost 600 Women's March protesters who filled the atrium of the Hart Senate Office Building on Capitol Hill today in opposition to the Trump administration's "zero-tolerance" border enforcement policies.

He also claimed he has "watched ICE liberate towns from the grasp of MS-13 & clean out the toughest of situations", though it is unclear what he was referring to. They carried signs with slogans like "We are all immigrants" as they chanted "Love, not hate, makes America great".
