US trade tariffs are economic sanctions in disguise says Putin

Leaders of the G7 nations struggled to close a widening chasm on Friday triggered by US President Donald Trump's thrashing of global trade rules and differences in the Western alliance over climate change and the Iran nuclear deal.

In Paris, Macron's office said it wouldn't make sense and pointed out that the latest country to impose economic sanctions on Russian Federation was the US Italy's new premier, Giuseppe Conte, tweeted that he agreed with Trump, saying: "Russia should go back into the G-8. They should let Russian Federation come back in because we should have Russian Federation at the negotiating table". But Russia was suspended from the summit of the top industrialized nations in 2014 after its annexation of Crimea, a part of Ukraine.

Donald Tusk, the former Polish leader attending as president of the European Council, saw the call for Russia's return as part of a raft of unilateral measures imposed by Trump that have driven Washington apart from United States allies.

Macron, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, British Prime Minister Theresa May and new Italian premier Giuseppe Conte agreed on a common stance on Russian Federation during talks together on the sidelines of the G7 summit, which is taking place in Canada.

"On Russia rejoining the G7, our position has not changed", said Adam Austen, spokesman for Canada's foreign affairs minister Chrystia Freeland.

Storylines to Watch Out for Ahead of the NBA Finals
He logged all 48 minutes in Sunday's Game 7 win over the Celtics , in which he scored 35 points with 15 rebounds and nine assists. Stephen Curry and Golden State turned all those Houston bricks into a road back to the National Basketball Association finals.

But Kudlow was quick to downplay the rift between the president and USA allies.

China-Russia partnership is a paradigm for today's state-to-state relations, and coordination between the two countries serves as a key factor in maintaining the world's strategic balance and stability, said the joint statement. Late Thursday, the White House announced that Trump would be leaving the G-7 late Saturday morning to head to Singapore ahead of his summit with Kim, though the meeting was scheduled to last until later that day.

China is now locked in an ongoing trade dispute with the U.S., which has also imposed tough sanctions on Russian Federation.

"Looking forward to straightening out unfair Trade Deals with the G7 countries", Trump tweeted early on Friday.

Past year at the G7 summit in Italy, Trump and his officials balked at some of the language relating to global efforts to address climate change - the leaders could not produce a consensus statement that Trump would sign - a move that foreshadowed his eventual withdrawal from the Paris climate change accord a week later. Meanwhile, Trump continued to talk tough Friday, even threatening to "terminate" the North American Free Trade Agreement, which he has repeatedly characterized as unfair to the U.S.

Gas prices rise in time for holiday weekend
The unofficial start of summer is nearly here, which means people are heading to their destinations this Memorial Day weekend. AAA says that fifteen states, including New York, New Jersey and IL , are already facing $3 average gas prices or higher.

"Let's leave seven as it is", Tusk said. "But now we are seeing that this is happening".

Trump has left little doubt he has grown impatient with his northern neighbour, tweeting at French President Emmanuel Macron and Trudeau, with his volleys growing increasingly personal towards the Canadian prime minister.

"Threats to our collective security have not waned, whether terrorism to the south or Russia's aggression and hybrid threats to the east", Mattis told reporters in Brussels after a meeting of defense ministers from the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. Under Trump, the USA has sanctioned several Russians close to President Vladimir Putin and his circle.

Trump, in turn, responded by using his first public remarks on Canadian soil as president to crack jokes with summit host Prime Minister Justin Trudeau at their bilateral meeting at a scenic Quebec resort overlooking the St. Lawrence River.
