Amazon to show 20 matches a season from 2019

The US online retail giant has broken Sky and BT's stranglehold on English top-flight football by taking one of the Premier League's two remaining TV rights packages. (It should also be noted that this is just relating to United Kingdom rights.) That's a big deal; Boxing Day in particular is a bit of a tradition on the Premier League calendar, and though it's just two days worth of matches, it's not hard to imagine Amazon picking up plenty of new Prime customers here.
Sky and BT will nevertheless show the vast majority of live matches, with 128 and 52 - BT having been awarded the other package up for grabs on Thursday of 20 games at a reported cost of £90 million - respectively.
Add BT Sport to your Sky TV package for £27.99 a month, plus a £20 fee, and Amazon for another £7.99 a month.
It adds live Premier League football to Amazon's sports portfolio which already includes the ATP World Tennis Tour and the US Open tennis and NFL games.
They will show one full Bank Holiday round of games and one further midweek round on their Prime streaming service.
Amazon will make the Premier League available to Amazon Prime members.
Football matches on Amazon will only be available to Amazon Prime customers, for which membership now costs £7.99 a month or £79 a year.
Amazon, which started as an online retailer, has built up an increasingly impressive sports portfolio and broadcasts the US Open tennis, ATP World Tour Tennis events - where they outbid Sky by offering £50 million - and National Football League games.
That would take the total value of the rights to £4.55bn, with Amazon yet to announce how much it has paid.
Leroy Sané left out of Germany World Cup squad
To Belgium next, and the biggest story from the squad is that Michy Batshuayi has been proclaimed fit to make the final 23. The 22-year-old played a crucial part in Manchester City's record-breaking Premier League title win last season.
Separately, the Premier League clubs have agreed a new formula for sharing any future increase in global broadcast revenue from season 2019/20 onwards.
However, analysts said they probably did not sell in February because they did not achieve the reserve price set by the Premier League.
Two of the seven packages of rights available had been left unsold in that last round of deal-making, with the EPL reportedly failing to get its original asking price.
For Amazon, the deal is the latest example of its expansion into the world of live sports broadcasting.
There are still a number of overseas deals to be completed but it is expected that the Premier League will double the #3bn it received in overseas revenue from the previous three-year cycle.

Still, Kent Desormeaux's tentative ride on Big Brown - the jockey pulled up the uninjured horse in the stretch - was baffling. All Spring I was entralled with a horse who had run once or twice in his life, but had shown remarkable talent on the track.

Russia critic Browder briefly detained in Spain
Interpol had previously refused to enforce a similar 2013 sentence for Browder, deeming it "predominantly political in nature". Browder said he was going to talk to Grinda "about the huge amount of money from the Magnitsky case that flowed to Spain".
