French Open 2018: Garbine Muguruza thrashes Maria Sharapova to reach semi-finals

"But on the day I can leave a Grand Slam saying I gave everything I had, I played a great match, is not here yet".

The top-ranked player indeed showed solid nerves to turn things up after a really bad start in her French Open quarterfinal on Wednesday.

Top-ranked Simona Halep has leveled at one set-all in her French Open quarterfinal against Angelique Kerber of Germany.

In full swing: Garbine Muguruza hardly broke a sweat en route to her first victory over Maria Sharpova.

The 24-year-old Garcia's face was in the front page of L'Equipe on Monday, quoting her as saying her goal was to "win a Grand Slam", and she did not change her statement after her 6-2 6-3 defeat on Court Suzanne Lenglen.

Kerber found decent length on her forehand, regularly putting Halep close to the baseline, and went easily 4-0 up. The victor earns a berth in the final at Roland Garros - plus the No 1 ranking that now belongs to Halep.

Sharapova, back at the claycourt slam for the first time since 2015 following a doping-ban, walked on court with two French Open crowns to Muguruza's one and a 3-0 head-to-head record against the reigning Wimbledon champion.

She needed only 70 minutes to eliminate Sharapova and dominated her with superb returning, breaking the former No. 1 a half-dozen times. She broke again in the eighth game to seal the match.

Garbine Muguruza and Simona Halep meet in the semifinals of the 2018 tennis French Open.

"I hadn't had a withdrawal in - I don't know how long. maybe like six years or something", Sharapova said.

Sharapova didn't need to play a point in the fourth round, because Serena Williams pulled out of their much-anticipated match with an injured chest muscle.

But by the third set Halep had broken the German's defenses - and her resolve - as she banged in 76 percent of her first serves, with only half the unforced errors of her opponent. Muguruza essentially got that round off, too: Her opponent, Lesia Tsurenko, quit with an injury after only two games.

R. Kelly team has no comment on woman's lawsuit
A representative for the singer said in April that he "categorically denies all claims and allegations" in the lawsuit. On other occasions, Kelly instructed her to perform sexually while he filmed her on his iPad, she claims.

It ranked among one of the most lopsided losses ever suffered by Sharapova in her Grand Slam career. Halep's only win over Muguruza came in the 2016 Stuttgart Open, the only meeting between these two on clay. I didn't manage to find the rhythm, to be focused on my match.
