A damaged motorbike is seen at the scene outside a church following a suicide bomb
A family of six including two young daughters staged suicide bombings at the three Indonesian churches during Sunday services, killing at least 13 people and at least 40 others in attacks claimed by the Islamic State group, Agence France-Presse reported.
The family's two teenaged sons then used a motorcycle to carry out their attack, while the mother and her two daughters used backpacks and bags to hide their bombs.
The police believe that JAD is group that is following attack, an organization that is estimated to have attracted hundreds of supporters of Islamic State in Indonesia.
The police later disabled three bombs at the home of the suspects, officials in Surabaya said.
Suicide bombers who committed terrorist attacks in churches in Indonesia were members of the same family.
The two daughters were aged 12 and nine while the other two, thought to be the man's sons, were 18 and 16, police said.
In a subsequent, longer media release, the group identified three modes of attack: a vehicle bomb, a suicide vest and a motorcycle-borne bomb.
In the third location, the Indonesian Christian Church, veiled women entered the church's yard where they were stopped by a security guard before an explosion occurred at the same spot, according to the police report.
National police chief Tito Karnavian said the family had returned to Indonesia from Syria, according to the AP.
A street merchant outside the church said she was blown several meters (yards) by the blast.

Jemaah Islamiyah, the network responsible for the Bali attacks, was obliterated by a sustained crackdown on militants by Indonesia's counterterrorism police with US and Australian support.
Forensic proof signifies the bombs have been connected to the attackers' our bodies, Karnavian stated.
The attacks come several days after five Indonesian police officers and an inmate were killed in clashes at a high-security jail on the outskirts of Jakarta.
