On Saturday, three terrorists have been murdered and also three CRPF personnel were injured in a eight-hour-long encounter from the congested Chattabal spot in downtown Srinagar.
The other terrorists killed in the gunbattle are Tauseef Shiekh, Aadil Malik and Bilal alias Molvi, all residents of south Kashmir. The spokesman said the identities of the slain militants are being ascertained.
The police have called the family of the professor, Dr Mohammad Rafi Bhat from Chunduna, Ganderbal to persuade him to surrender, officials and family sources said. Two security personal were also injured during the clash with the militants.
A large number of arms and ammunition - including AK 47 rifles, magazines, UBGL grenades, wire cutter, medical kit and matrix sheets - were recovered from the terrorists, indications that they belonged to the outlawed LeT. He refused, the police said.
One civilian with critical injuries has been shifted to Srinagar for treatment.
Meanwhile, clashes erupted between demonstrators and security forces in the areas adjacent to sealed area while authorities suspended internet and rail service.
