Operator of self-driving Waymo vehicle injured in Chandler crash The investigation is ongoing
Waymo released a video of the incident on YouTube.
An autonomous auto being tested by Waymo was involved in a serious collision in the Phoenix, Arizona suburb of Chandler, when a vehicle being driven by a human swerved to avoid another auto, and left the human operator in the Waymo with minor injuries.
As a result, the Honda went into opposing traffic lanes and hit the Waymo minivan.
It remains unclear if the Waymo minivan had any passengers at the time of the collision and Tyler couldn't confirm whether or not the driver of the Honda suffered any injuries. It's unclear at this stage what caused the silver Honda to swerve across the road into the path of the Waymo minivan.
Chandler Police say the incident happened Friday afternoon when a Honda sedan swerved to avoid hitting another vehicle. The Waymo operator sustained only minor injuries, according to reports.
It swerved sharply before crashing into the driver's side of the Waymo auto. It seems like the tech giants are struggling with the safe testing of the self-driving vehicles.
Reports say that the vehicle was in autonomous mode at the time.
Waymo began its self-driving vehicle business in 2009, at which point it was a part of Google, according to the company website.
GGG ties Hopkins' mark with KO of Martirosyan
It took the 36-year-old Golovkin just two rounds to finish Martirosyan, who was fighting for the first time in almost two years. Not only did Gennady Golovkin have to face a new opponent, but the venue of the fight and its viewing status was altered.
The latest crash of the Waymo self-driving auto is a reminder that the autonomous technology is still in its early stage.
Waymo did not immediately respond to Newsweek's request for comment.
Police in Arizona are now investigating the crash, which occurred fewer than two months after a self-driving Uber struck and killed a pedestrian in another part of the state.
After 49-year-old pedestrian Elaine Herzberg was killed crossing the street in Tempe, Ducey suspended indefinitely Uber's ability to test-drive on Arizona roads, but did not address Waymo.
