The off-color response appears to have originally been noted on Reddit's Apple community, where a visitor suggested on Saturday that iPhone owners ask Siri for the alternate definition of "mother." A Reddit user has posted on the Apple community of the popular social messaging and posting site that asking Siri for an additional definition of the word "mother" elicits a unusual and rather inappropriate response.

Saying "yes" to this question fetches the second, more obscene definition, "As a noun, it means, short for "motherf****r".

Siri pulls data from the Oxford Dictionary, which offers the "motherf**ker" answer as a secondary definition of the word "mother".

Malkin, Dumoulin, Hagelin all GTDs for Game 3
I think he's doing a good job and he's playing the game the way he should, the way he needs to to be a really effective player. Nicklas Backstrom wrapped up the scoring with his third goal of the playoffs on an empty netter with seven seconds remaining.

Gizmodo reports that this "easter egg" seems to be prevalent on all iOS devices, from the iPhone 5S to the iPhone X and iPads, as well as on computers running macOS.

What is unusual about the way in which Siri handles this request is that it completely bypasses some far-more-commonly used secondary definitions for mother and skips right to the fourth definition which is pretty vulgar.

If they answer in the affirmative, Siri then described how "mother" could also be a noun. The dictionary has four other sub-definitions of "mother" but Siri skips all and heads right over to the one marked as "vulgar, slang", without any warning. After that, Siri will ask you, if you are interested in listing the second response. Case in point - scores of people have begun asking it to define the word mother.

Apple hasn't done anything yet to stop Siri from spitting out swear words unexpectedly.

A amusing "Easter egg" surfaced over the weekend in which you can get Siri to curse. This is a wide range of statistics, but even at the low end, that's a pretty high number considering the numerous requests that Siri deals with in any one day.

Siri may be a friendly (if slightly dim) neighborhood smart assistant, but not everything about Apple's A.I. voice is entirely G-rated. The Australian Siri also encountered the same issue.
