Modi-Xi 'Agree' To Joint Project in Afghanistan

Narendra Modi and Xi Jinping

The two leaders have endorsed the work done by the special representatives on the boundary question and the 20 other established mechanisms for addressing issues of contention and convergence.

Keeping the Doklam Standoff in mind, both the leaders also made a decision to issue guidance to their militaries to implement various confidence-building measures to strengthen the existing institutional mechanisms, thus, preventing and managing the situations in the border areas.

The meeting is seen as an effort to improve bilateral ties between the two countries which had weakened because of the Doklam standoff past year.

China and India have agreed to strengthen communication between their militaries and keep the peace along their shared borders, signalling a successful reset in relations following a tense border stand-off past year.

Indian Foreign Secretary Vijay Gokhale told reporters after Modi and Xi wrapped up their talks that both leaders had agreed their two countries had the maturity and wisdom to handle all their differences peacefully through talks. One of them was a walk by the iconic East Lake, a popular holiday spot in Wuhan, which was followed by a boat ride.

Karnataka assembly elections 2018: Opinion polls predict hung assembly
The JDS, which does not have much organisational strength in the region, seems to have given up in favour of the BJP . Vijayendra will not be contesting from the constituency against Yathindra Siddaramaiah , the chief minister's son.

"China-India relations are important for global stability and peace", Xi said to the Xinhua news agency.

The Chinese media hailed the informal summit between Chinese President Xi Jinping and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Wuhan city.

When asked if the talks at Chinese President Xi Jingping's hometown Wuhan would help avoid standoffs like the recent Doklam face-off, Madhav said, "There is no longer any frostiness in our relationship; it has all gone". We discussed ways to give impetus to our economic ties as well as people-to-people relations. India's membership bid to the Nuclear Suppliers Group was also opposed by China on the grounds that New Delhi is not a signatory to the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty or the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty.

"It's a sign that the two leaders, to an extent, did manage to address the distrust which has marked ties in the past few years", said a source.

The Cardinals pick... the Rosen one!
Rosen, who threw 59 touchdowns and 26 interceptions during his three seasons at UCLA, has a history of not being shy in the media. And while Bradford is unlikely to lead the Cardinals to a Super Bowl, there are worse places for Rosen to be than the Cardinals.

Both the leaders are also looking forward to setting aside the bitterness of the past to forge a new relationship.

Narendra Modi and Xi Jinping also pledged that they will personally advise the militaries of both the countries to prevent a Doklam-like scenario in the future.

India has pledged over United States dollars two billion on a wide array of reconstruction projects that range from building roads and dams to constructing the building of the Afghan parliament and a slew of grassroots projects.

They recognised terrorism as common threat and committed to cooperate further on counter terrorism. The territory is, however, claimed by both China and India's ally Bhutan.
