Two Dallas police officers were shot at this Home Depot store in northeast Dallas
Dallas Police Chief Renee Hall addressed the media during a press conference asking for prayers for their officers. The shooting happened o Tuesday afternoon at 4:30 p.m. Local ABC affiliate WFAA described the two Dallas police officers as "rookies in their 20s".
The suspect, identified by police as 29-year-old Armando Luis Juarez, is still at large.
"We need you right now", she said. Hall also said the officers and the loss prevention worker were all out of surgery after the shooting. Police are looking for a white work truck they say he may have gotten into.
Students rally at Capitol against gun violence
Toward the end of the rally, student organizers read their mission statement of specific legislation they want lawmakers to enact. Five students were suspended by school administrators, said Myers Park senior Nicholas Hicks, who said he was one of them.
"The officers got him and they started doing the shots it was about seven shots that we heard", said Mercedes Espinosa, a Home Depot employee.
Council member Adam McGough, who represents the area, said he is praying for the officers and their families.
Juarez is to be considered and unsafe, Hall said, adding that it is unclear "how he was able to get a gun and shoot all three of the victims".
The shooting took place at the 11600 block of Forest Central Drive, near U.S. Highway 75 and Forest Lane in the Lake Highlands neighborhood. The officers were critically wounded at the hardware store in the northeast part of the city.
Police announced they would give updates on the ongoing situation.
Two Dallas police officers have been critically wounded in an officer-involved shooting. Police officials say the officer detained a suspect and requested additional officers for assistance.
