A Syrian child receives medical treatment after the chemical attack on Douma
The televised image of Assad walking on gleaming marble floors toward his office, briefcase in hand, matched the rhetoric the Syrian government put out soon after the strike: the second United States attack in a year in response to suspected chemical weapons use has failed to rattle the regime and the president is in control.
An attack the West has accused the Assad regime of committing.
Trump was criticized for using the phrase in a tweet on Saturday with many comparing Trump to former President George W. Bush who declared an end to USA combat operations in Iraq in 2003 under a banner with the words "Mission Accomplished".
"Right now they don't have very good friends and right now the friends that they do have are causing them harm", Haley said, referring to Russian Federation.
As the war in Iraq dragged on for years to come and American casualties piled up, the "Mission Accomplished" banner became a punch line, a telling indication of the Bush administration's gross underestimation of the challenge posed by the conflict, CNN's Chris Cillizza wrote.
He said the mission was "so perfectly carried out, with such prescion, that the only way the Fake News Media could demean was by my use of the term 'Mission Accomplished'. Use often!" Trump wrote. "And so he made a point, and hopefully Assad gets it". "We met our objectives. That's what the president is referring to", she said. "And at the same time, they feel that they have lost the confidence of their peoples and the world".

Critics, however, claimed Sunday that Trump was premature.
"We believe that by hitting Barzeh, in particular, we've attacked the heart of the Syrian chemicals weapon program", US Lieutenant General Kenneth McKenzie said at the Pentagon. "I'm not going to say they'll be unable to conduct a chemical attack in the future".
"We would have preferred an alternative path, but in this case there was none", May said.
Haley said Trump told her the U.S.is "locked and loaded" should the Syrian government continue to launch chemical weapons attacks against civilians.
Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine) sounded a similar note of caution on ABC's "This Week" and called for a broader strategy.
"I don't think there's any way that I can answer that", she said. "That does not, however, solve the problem".
Meanwhile, Mr Rouhani accused the U.S. "and some Western countries" of not wanting Syria "to reach permanent stability". "This will have no impact on a government that has survived a war that lasted more than seven years". "And we've had some success so far".
He went on to suggest that a failure to continue to press Assad could result in the creation of "ISIS 2.0".
Trump, French President Emmanuel Macron and U.K. Prime Minister Theresa May released statements after the attack had begun, saying the missile strikes were focused on chemical weapons sites.
"Our warnings have been left unheard", Russia's ambassador to the US, Anatoly Antonov, said in a tweet on Saturday morning.
"Yes, it is all of our goal to see American troops come home".
Speaking with "Fox News Sunday" host Chris Wallace, the former SC governor defended the USA, United Kingdom and France partnership that saw the three countries launch more than 100 missiles at three separate targets in Syria. So basically we will watch his actions. "He now dictates his life", she said.
Johnson added there was no proposal in place for further attacks, but if Assad's regime were to repeat chemical attacks "clearly, with allies, we would study what the options were".
