Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti today lauded the people of Jammu for dismissing communal forces and their unwavering support for justice to an eight-year-old girl who was raped and killed in Kathua.

United Nations (UN) chief Antonio Guterres on Saturday termed the Kathua gangrape and murder case "horrific" and said he hoped that justice would be delivered.

The attack took place in January, but the details were only released by police this week.

The Supeme Court (SC) said on Friday it has made a decision to examine, of its own accord, the Kathua gangrape-murder case +, and has also sent a notice to the Bar Council of Jammu and Kashmir for preventing the filing of a chargesheet against the rape accused.

In January, the eight-year-old victim went missing while grazing horses in Rassana forest in Kathua district.
