Anyone on YouTube can upload a video to YouTube's main site. Every video affected Tuesday morning was originally posted by the music-sharing company Vevo.

The alleged hackers who refer to themselves as Prosox and Kuroi'sh, reportedly took credit for the cyber attack on Twitter.

Dozens of other videos were also defaced including songs from Taylor Swift, Drake, Selena Gomez, Katy Perry and Shakira.

Hacked? YouTube's most watched video ever Despacito 'deleted'

On April 4, as Twitterati searched for news regarding the shooting at the YouTube headquarters in the U.S., hackers compromised a verified employee's Twitter account to spread fake news in the midst of the attack.

While numerous videos have since been changed back to their original there are some which still show the altered title. Buzzfeed say that Vevo did not immediately reply to their request for comment.

The most streamed song of all times, "Despacito" earlier created the record of reaching fastest 2 billion views on Youtube in just 154 hours of its release.

While the Despacito video was deleted from YouTube, the others are still available.

The clip's cover image was replaced with a photo showing a group of people wearing masks and pointing guns.

While the image appears to have been removed, the video has not yet been reinstated. Additionally, the video views are intact as well, suggesting that Vevo and Google-owned YouTube have troubleshooted the issue now.
