Liverpool FC will now turn their attentions towards European affairs and the crunch first leg of their Champions League quarter-final clash against Manchester City at Anfield on Wednesday night.

Klopp has won many plaudits for his team's style of football, but his Liverpool side have lost in two finals - the League Cup and the Europa League in 2016.

If the German worldwide and his team-mates needed any extra motivation ahead of the tie, it lies in the fact that City's sole defeat in the Premier League this season came at the hands of the Merseysiders with Liverpool edging a seven-goal Anfield thriller in January.

That may have been a dress rehearsal for Wednesday's game where, whoever Guardiola chooses as the left-back will have the daunting task of marking Mohamed Salah, who has scored 37 goals in all competitions this season.

"It's not just Salah".

Paul Pogba scores glorious free-kick and sets up Mbappe during France win
This was the first France game in which Manchester United's Pogba has scored and assisted a goal. The likes of Scott McTominay and Marouane Fellaini have been preferred by the Red Devils boss.

Although he has led Liverpool back into the Champions League, the German knows he must deliver trophies.

If anyone can beat City, Liverpool at least know they have a blueprint which works and that is why Guardiola cannot place an iota of importance on the United game.

If we are able [we make the] semi-finals, if we are not able [we say] well done Liverpool and next season we come back stronger to overcome the situation we can not this season.

"I was never a manager who thought what is the best result?"

"The other team is Sevilla, since we already played there".

But South Korean Ryu So-yeon, who beat Thompson past year , started poorly with a 75 that did not include a single birdie. Fowler hooked his drive into the water hazard then three-putted from inside six feet for a triple-bogey 6.

But the City fanbase has still to embrace the Champions League and regard it as the pinnacle, as they do at Anfield and Old Trafford, so local supremacy remains the primary focus for many of them. We should finish the game with 11 first of all, that would be cool.

"But that's a big ask, to be able to put that much energy and effort in two games, for 90 minutes a time".

Rather than leaving that condition hanging in the air he quickly stressed that Liverpool's task is "unbelievably difficult". The Champions League is where Guardiola's focus should be. Hopefully he can help us.

The Catalan revealed following Saturday's victory at Goodison Park that all of his decisions over the next 10 days will be made with both games against Liverpool in mind.
