Suspicious packages sent to military locations around DC

Authorities took a man into custody Tuesday in relation to a series of mysterious packages that were sent to various government facilities across Washington, D.C. and Virginia.

Each package found Monday was collected for further analysis by the Federal Bureau of Investigation at Quantico, VA and they were rendered inert.

The suspect was arrested around 12 hours after the first discovery of the packages, a law enforcement source told NPR.

An X-ray indicated a suspected Global Positioning System and an expedient fuse attached to potential explosive material at the National Defense University, at Fort McNair, ABC News reported.

Trump congratulated Putin after his national security team told him not to
President Donald Trump didn't congratulate Vladimir Putin on his re-election as president. It was not clear whether Trump read the notes, administration officials said.

Officials at Fort McNair evacuated a building after one of the packages was delivered, a spokesman said.

Among the locations where packages were recovered: the Central Intelligence Agency in Langley, Va.; Fort Belvoir, Va.; Fort Lesley J. McNair in Washington; Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling in Washington; and Naval Surface Warfare Center in Dahlgren, Va.

Authorities did not immediately name the man but said he was known to law enforcement.

During screening, the packages were found to be suspicious, although it is unclear what made them suspicious.

Morocco outline $20 billion World Cup bid
The system allows the referee or the video assistant to review decisions where a "clear and obvious" error is spotted. The FIFA Council meeting in Bogota, Colombia, on Friday selected Poland to host the U-20 football World Cup in 2019.

Another package was found Dahlgren Naval Air Station in Virginia. It was quickly rendered safe, the military said.

It is possible that further packages were mailed to additional mail processing facilities in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area.

It is not clear if the parcels all contained working explosives. According to the Wall Street Journal, some of the packages had letters attached to them, which included "ramblings" written by the mysterious sender. A United States official said a Naval Support Facility in Dahlgren, Virginia, also received a suspicious package and that the FBI is leading the investigation.

Army Lt. Col. Michelle L. Baldanza says the incident is under investigation and the Pentagon was referring all inquiries to the FBI.
