Chicago Pulls Out Of Joint US Bid To Host 2022 World Cup

Thanks to FIFA's outrageous demands towards host cities, a few major North American cities opted not to be included in the joint bid between the United States, Canada, and Mexico for the 2026 World Cup.

Sohi is set to join Steven Reed, president of Canada Soccer and co-chair of the United 2026 bid committee, and Ward 10 city councillor Michael Walters for the 10 a.m. announcement.

The full list of Candidate Host Cities can be found below. If the countries were granted the 2026 World Cup, FIFA would select 16 host cities from the group of 23.

Seattle's inclusion as a final Candidate Host City in the United Bid's proposal is supported throughout the region by both those involved in the sport and various levels of government, all dedicated to making Seattle one of the strongest possible host sites for Federation Internationale de Football Association play. Cities selected as candidates for the U.S. include Atlanta, Baltimore, Boston, Cincinnati, Dallas, Denver, Houston, Kansas City, Los Angeles, Miami, Nashville, New York/New Jersey, Orlando, Philadelphia, San Francisco Bay Area, Seattle and Washington DC.

The Minneapolis Bid Committee said Thursday it has decided against submitting a formal bid to host the soccer tournament. The rival bid from Morocco has to deliver its submission in the same format. The United Bid is in the running against Morocco.

But the North American bid has been cast in doubt in recent months, partly because of rising anti-American sentiment around the globe that could hurt the North American bid when voting occurs in June.
