Named the happiest country according to the UN

Finland is world’s ‘happiest country Burundi the least

China is the 86th happiest country in the world according to the 2018 World Happiness Report (PDF), released by the Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) for the United Nations on Wednesday.

The report added that the "sociopolitical system" in the United States produces more income inequality - a major contributing factor to unhappiness - than other countries with comparatively high incomes.

The country's migrant population in 2017 made up 31.9 percent of the total population.

As Maggie Astor reports for the New York Times, the USA ranked 18th out of 156 countries surveyed in the World Happiness Report of 2018.

Trump blocks Broadcom's attempt to buy Qualcomm
Nearly every major business and consumer electronics manufacturer uses Qualcomm's technology as brains for their devices. The other manufacturer with a dog in the fight (and a bone to pick with the U.S. government) is of course Huawei.

This is according to the latest World Happiness Report.

Finland topped the list that combines economic, health and polling data compiled by economists that are averaged over three years from 2015 to 2017. It'll be presented to the United Nations just before World Happiness Day on March 20.

Mauritius is now the happiest country in Africa, followed by crisis-torn Libya, Algeria and Morocco respectively.

The 10 happiest countries were also 10 of the top 11 spots in the rankings of immigrant happiness.

Although swapping places, the top 10 positions have been held by the same countries over the past two years, namely Denmark, Iceland, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Canada, New Zealand, Sweden and Australia. The surveys asked thousands of people across the globe to place themselves on a ladder with steps numbered from zero to 10, with 10 representing the best possible life-a method known as the Cantril scale.

The United States fell to 18th place from 14th previous year.

The report reviews the state of happiness in the world and shows how the new science of happiness explains personal and national variations in happiness.

The report also analyzes areas that pose a risky threat to quality of life, focusing specifically on three health problems within its penultimate chapters: obesity, the opioid crisis and depression, all problems that are especially acute within the USA, which tumbled four spots to the 18th place on 2018's list.
