Michael Avenatti appeared on the Today show after he filed a lawsuit against the president on Daniels' behalf that seeks to release her from the agreement she signed to keep quiet.

The suit accuses Cohen of intimidating and coercing Daniels into signing a false statement in January denying that she had an affair with Trump and received hush money.

President Donald Trump's personal attorney Michael Cohen complained to friends he had not been reimbursed for a six-figure payment to a porn star alleged to have had an affair with Trump, The Wall Street Journal reported Monday.

Avenatti said Daniels wasn't looking to profit from her story.

The White House has dodged questions about whether allegations of the affair are true, claiming the matter was dealt with during the campaign.

The lawsuit claims Trump intentionally refused to sign it so that he would have deniability in case the agreement ever came to light.

Major Nor'easter revs up over East Coast
A nor'easter officially hit the US East Coast on Friday morning, and is expected to affect coastal cities from Georgia to Maine. About 1,500 flights involving United States airports are canceled, Flight tracking website FlightAware.com posted Friday .

The porn star, whose real name is Stephanie Clifford, claimed in the suit that Trump never signed the non-disclosure agreement that keeps her from speaking about their alleged year-long tryst.

If Daniels were to win the suit, she would be able to speak about her alleged involvement with Trump. She didn't respond to requests for comment.

Trump declined to comment on the issue.

"The attempts to intimidate Ms. Clifford into silence and "shut her up" in order to "protect Mr. Trump" continue unabated", the suit alleges.

Several months later, more details emerged. Without skipping a beat, Avenatti answered back: "Yes". The Common Cause complaint asserts that if the payment to Clifford had been made to influence the election, it would be an undisclosed "in-kind" contribution to the campaign, and if not from Trump personally, it would violate not only the disclosure rules but also the donation limit.

The lawsuit notes that after he and Clifford signed the agreement, Cohen had $130,000 wired to a trust account of Clifford's attorney. In it, Trump is caught using crude language about women and describing how he would hit on them.

Stephanie Clifford, known professionally as Stormy Daniels, signed both the agreement and a side letter agreement using her professional name on October 28, 2016, just days before the 2016 presidential election.

"He goes, "Oh, don't worry about her", she told the magazine.

Q: Was there some kind of settlement, some kind of hush money that was paid?

"There's so much misinformation out there that has been spread by Mr. Cohen and others".

Reached by phone, Daniels' lawyer Michael Avenatti told USA TODAY: "Yeah, and he also won the popular vote".

Q: Yeah, just another subject.
