Tiger Woods may only be three starts into his PGA Tour return but some experts feel the former world number one has shown he still has what it takes to make a meteoric rise up the rankings.
Woods, 42, has never played at the Valspar Championship. The 14-time major champion remained in contention through the majority of the tournament with the type of steady play that has eluded him for several years.
Tiger had limited options for pre-Masters events because he is ineligible for the World Golf Chanmpionships tournaments this week in Mexico and the Match Play later this month. It will be his first start at the event since his last win in 2013.
Woods recorded excellent swing speed off the tee, hit the greens in regulation in a majority of the holes in the final round, and recorded a 361-yard drive at the Honda Classic. "If he can play well in the run-up to the Masters, I think it will be an amazingly compelling event", he said. Body feels good. I just need to keep feeling good. It was another strong signal about the health of his surgically fused lower back, giving him four tournaments in five weeks. "It's not easy to do and I was able to do most of the week".
Sharma, who entered the week ranked first on the European Tour after early-season victories in South Africa and Malaysia, said: "I've definitely proven to myself I belong here and I can play with the big boys". That was the goal when I first came back.
The Valspar Championships suddenly has a fairly loaded field with names like Justin Rose, Patrick Reed, Louis Oosthuizen, Rory McIlroy and Henrik Stenson in addition to Woods.
