Transgender wrestler Mack Beggs survives first day of state finals

Mack Beggs of Euless Trinity smiles in the closing seconds of a Class 6A girls 110-pound semifinal bout during the UIL State Wrestling Championships at the Berry Center on Saturday

Beggs, a student at Euless Trinity High School near Dallas, is a female transitioning to a male and is taking what is reported to be a low-dose of testosterone, according to the New York Post.

A transgender high school wrestler in Texas once again won a state title over the weekend and once again his victory brought a mix of cheers and jeers.

"They're saying 'steroids.' They're saying, 'Oh, they're beating up on girls, ' " Beggs said, according to the News.

"Even though I was put in this position, even though I didn't want to be put in this position, even though I wanted to wrestle the guys, I still had to wrestle the girls", she said. "It has more to do with skill and discipline than strength".

Though he has repeatedly asked to wrestle in the boys' devision, Beggs is forced to wrestle girls because, under University Interscholastic League rules, athletes must compete in the gender division that corresponds to their birth certificates. "I've been through too much (expletive) for anyone to put me down".

Beggs has compiled a 132-9 record over the last three seasons, and hasn't lost a match in the past two years. "That didn't stop me from being who I was", he said. The lawsuit's argument centered around Beggs' use of testosterone to help with that transition. An opposing coach and her teammates had insisted she wrestle Beggs, but she refused, McNew said.

"The UIL is not in the gender-determining business and schools don't want to be either", UIL deputy director Jamey Harrison told the Associated Press.

When he won the state title Saturday, the boos were overtaken by cheers, not that he lets the reception he receives affect him. This year I wanted to prove a point that anyone can do anything.

However, many voiced that he should be wrestling boys or not wrestling at all.

She went on to insist that she has been the unfair victim of gender prejudice and discrimination that violates her so-called "civil right" to compete as a male - even though she is still a biological female.

The story reports that through February 11 NBC has averaged 9.569 million total viewers, vs. 9.385 million for CBS. NBC offered the Super Bowl and drew on such hits as " Sunday Night Football ", " The Voice " and " This Is Us ".

Beggs was born a girl.

"It just comes down to technique and who has the most heart".

Beggs does not view his testosterone injections as an unfair advantage.

Beggs didn't want to be in this situation.

Beggs defeated Chelsea Sanchez of Katy Morton Ranch High School. "I would rather have a chance to compete than not compete at all".
