Prosecutors allege Louise assaulted one of the couple's daughters on or after January 15, 2015, by a means "likely to produce great bodily injury".
He added: "It's further investigation that we've been doing in this case has led us to amend the complaint".
The next court date in the case is March 23, to go over the status of proceedings. He reiterated that both clients pleaded not guilty to the new charges and that "a lot of evidence" exists, likely postponing the preliminary hearing.
They alleged the couple shackled the children to furniture as punishment and had them live a nocturnal lifestyle. The children would often be chained to their beds.
They previously entered not-guilty pleas to torture and a raft of other charges and are being held on $12 million bail.
Each parent faces three additional charges of child abuse, and Louise Turpin was charged with felony assault in relation to an incident involving one of her daughters.
Elizabeth Jane Flores, a 41-year-old Christian motivational speaker from Cleveland, Tennessee is the sister of Louise Anna Turpin, the woman who, along with her husband, has been accused of child endangerment.

The Turpin parents were scheduled for a court appearance on February 23.
