Nikki Haley to Chief Palestinian Negotiator: 'I Will Not Shut Up'

Palestinian leader Mahmud Abbas

Palestinian leader Mahmud Abbas will call on the world powers and global community at the UN Security Council on Tuesday to stand against Trump administration decision to recognize Al-Quds (Jerusalem) as Israeli capital and establish a revamped peace process. "I assure that path will get the Palestinian people exactly nowhere toward the achievement of their aspirations", she warned.

Ms Haley called on Mr Abbas to be courageous enough to move on from anger at the decision to relocate the United States embassy.

Haley also disparaged the repetitive nature of the meeting's rhetoric, opening her statement by saying, "this session on the Middle East has been taking place each month for many many years, its focus has been nearly entirely on issues facing Israelis and Palestinians, and we have heard numerous same arguments and ideas over and over again, we have already heard them again this morning. You are the problem", Danon said. "Is it for the two-state solution or the one-state solution?" he added.

But he told the U.N. Security Council's monthly Mideast meeting that "after decades of support, the global consensus for a two-state solution could be eroding".

Mladenov called it one of the major obstacles to peace.

French UN Ambassador Francois Delattre told the council: "We are open to studying the development of the ways of global accompaniment for the peace process".

The International Olympics Committee will bankroll expenses for the 22 North Korean athletes competing in Pyeongchang. She became the first member of the North's ruling dynasty to set foot in the South since the end of the Korean War.

In response, the Trump administration announced it would cut US$ 125 million funding for the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East this year by US$ 65 million.

His address to the top United Nations body came amid simmering global concern over Trump's decision to recognise Jerusalem as Israel's capital.

Nickolay Mladenov told the U.N. Security Council Tuesday that "the enemies of peace are growing more confident by the day" and believe "the political odds are tilting in their favor".

Thus, he called for combating and exposing this disgusting racist policy that the Israeli government pursues to blackmail the Palestinian side on a humanitarian issue related to Palestinians' obligations towards the Palestinian victims of Israeli terrorism against the Palestinian people under occupation.

Friedman also strongly criticized the PA leadership, according to the sources, saying, "They have not shown that they are capable of building institutions that will allow them to live in peace with their neighbors". He stressed: "This is not an alarmist prediction - it is a fact".

United Nations envoy Nickolay Mladenov said the global community must continue advocating for "substantial Israeli policy changes" on settlements and stressed that "these are not negotiations between equals".

Excluded Russians to learn if they can compete in Olympics
Stephen Hess, an worldwide sports lawyer based in Colorado Springs, Colorado, said the decision was a victory for the IOC. The IOC and the World Anti-Doping Agency welcomed the ruling.

Jared Kushner, Trump's son-in-law and the top administration official in charge of restarting the peace talks, and Jason Greenblatt, the top U.S. Middle East negotiator, were seated directly behind Nikki Haley, the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, for the Abbas address.

The Palestinian president immediately left the council chamber following his address on Tuesday, leaving Israeli Ambassador Danny Danon to complain that he was once again "running away" from dialogue.

"I sit here today offering the outstretched hand of the United States to the Palestinian people in the cause of peace", she said.

Danon said: "It's not going to work that way".

Israel's ambassador however said direct negotiations were the only way forward.

Haley also took the opportunity to respond to comments made earlier this month by Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erekat, who said she should "shut up" with her criticism of Abbas.
