Bad weather forces rescheduling of women's giant slalom event at PyeongChang

Pyeongchang 2018 Winter Olympics

While some skiers, like Mikaela Shriffin of the US, will have to compete in back-to-back days because of the postponements, it seems like the safe call to keep athletes out of whiteout conditions as they fly down the mountain.

The Colorado-born talent is set to also ski in the giant slalom on Thursday after the event was postponed due to high winds, and there is a chance the rescheduling could affect her preparations and performance.

This is the third race that has been moved due to weather.

"We are on day three, so, come back on day 14 and we can discuss it again", Adams told journalists when asked about pushing back the end date of the Games.

Laidlaw leads Scotland fightback to keep title hopes alive
One of those returning to the side is Greig Laidlaw , in place of Ali Price, who struggled throughout in Cardiff. Scotland have won seven of their last eight home games with the only defeat coming against the All Blacks.

Running races on separate mountains on the same day is hardly ideal, however, especially when one, the men's downhill, is the marquee event of Alpine skiing at the Games.

The International Ski Federation (FIS) were forced to defend running the snowboard slopestyle final in strong crosswinds on Monday, stressing that the safety of the athletes was always the first priority. That followed Sunday's postponement of the men's downhill.

Additionally, Svindal and Jansrud could join Aamodt as the only Norwegian alpine skiers with multiple Olympic gold medals.

The slalom runs take place Tuesday evening in the USA, and in the early hours of the morning in the United Kingdom and Europe on Wednesday-with the start scheduled for 10:15 a.m. local time.

Ancient spider with a tail found preserved in amber
Scientists have discovered a groundbreaking arachnid species that lived millions of years ago - and it had a tail. Like a Griffin or a Jackalope, the spider looks like it had a tail from another creature attached to it.

Alpine skiing race directors have had contingency plans in place for several days after receiving the forecasts of the high winds and on Monday appeared resigned to two more days of battling the elements. "Now we're going to get ready for giant slalom, so there's going to be giant slalom training this afternoon".

"We had hope to be able to get today's race completed as scheduled, but it became clear that the winds were simply too strong to guarantee a fair and safe competition", FIS race director Atle Skaardal said.

"Well, it compresses the schedule, so it makes for a more hectic five, six days as we approach into the speed events", USA women's head coach Paul Kristofic said. Prior to these Games, there were some who suggested that Shiffrin could possibly be the first skier to medal in all five disciplines in the same Olympics.
