Alphabet rolls its Nest smart-home unit back into Google
Google proper, meanwhile, sold tens of millions of 'Home' smart home products, which have become popular for their Google Assistant-powered voice command features. It also plans to offer more bundled deals for Nest and Google home devices, and may integrate Google accounts into the Nest app.
There's been a major recovery at Nest over the previous year, with the slow product release schedule having been replaced by a steady slew of new products.
CEO of Nest, Marwan Fawaz described about the matter of Alphabet's unique structure as, "Each bet is different". After the merger, Nest is no longer a standalone entity; instead, it will be part of Google.
Google has announced this week that it will integrate its 2014 acquisition and smart-home darling Nest with its own in-house Hardware team in a move meant to "supercharge Nest's mission".
This fits in line with the appearance of Nest on-stage at the October Made by Google event past year, talking about using Google's Machine Learning and Assistant in powering Nest products.
Google's holding company Alphabet is to merge its smart home subsidiary Nest into Google in a bid to make up lost ground in the market for home automation products and services. The two companies are also expected to begin co-developing products in the coming years that align their visions for the future smart home.
"We've leveraged AI capabilities from Google in the past, especially in the computer vision space and facial recognition", Fawaz added to CNET. Together with the Nest team and our partners, we've helped save over 19 billion kWh of energy, helped save a number of lives - both human and pets - with Nest Protect, and helped families feel more safe at home with Nest Secure and Nest Cam. Hopefully, they will keep the tagline Made by Google on each product as we can see on the Pixel and Chromecasts. To fend off the competition, Google needs better integration AI technologies and consumer products, and this is what it is doing by integrating Nest.
