South & North Korea will march under unified flag at Olympics

North and South Korea will form their first joint Olympic team and march together at the opening ceremony, Seoul says.

The longtime adversaries have agreed to allow their athletes to march together in the opening ceremony and to jointly field a women's hockey team.

This comes as the two Koreas agreed to jointly prepare and hold cultural events in North Korea's Mount Kumgang resort before the PyeongChang Winter Olympics, as well as conduct joint training among ski athletes at the Masikryong Ski Resort in North Korea.

The IOC is due to meet with officials from the two Koreas, along with Pyeongchang organizing committee members, on Saturday at its headquarters in Switzerland.

He added that the North Korea will separately send a 150-strong delegation to the Paralympics.

The newspaper cautioned on its website that the South's decision to welcome a delegation of some 500 athletes and officials from the north "threatens to become a logistical nightmare".

South Korea is keen on talking with North Korea no matter the circumstances, and could decide that this is the right entry point for broader conversations about North Korea's nuclear program.

Japanese Foreign Minister Taro Kono and Harjit Sajjan, Canada's minister of national defense, were also at the dinner.

"We will work actively to improve North-South Korean relations but will not stand still to actions that are against unification", the North's Rodong Sinmun newspaper said.
