Trump's dancing monkeys break bipartisan hearts
Cotton and Durbin attended a bipartisan meeting in the White House last Thursday during which the president reportedly questioned why the USA was admitting immigrants from Haiti, El Salvador and some African countries under Temporary Protected Status instead of from countries such as Norway, whose prime minister Trump recently met. "Durbin has a history of misrepresenting what happens in White House meetings so, perhaps, we shouldn't be surprised by that".
The saga began when Sen.
Republican Georgia Senator David Perdue, a staunch Trump ally, and an attendee of the controversial Thursday afternoon meeting, later told Stephanopoulos the president did not use the vulgarity to describe Haiti, El Salvador and the African nations. Lindsay Graham (R-SC), who was in attendance, told him that Trump's reported comments were "basically accurate".
The ABC News host pressed Perdue again on whether he was "flat-out" denying that the president said those words.
"The gross misrepresentation was that language was used in there that was not used".
Stephanopoulos repeatedly tried to have Perdue clarify what he meant and asked point-blank if Trump did not in fact say the crass word during the meeting.
Trump said Durbin and Graham - two seasoned lawmakers - should come to the White House for a meeting at noon.
Perdue seems to be referring to a Facebook post Durbin made in response to a 2013 meeting between GOP leaders and then-President Obama. That's what he said in 2013.

Diana, Princess of Wales dined at the hotel shortly before she was killed in a vehicle crash on the night of August 31, 1997. The hotel, owned by Mohamed Al Fayed, reopened last year after four years of refurbishment work.
"Following comments by the President, I said my piece directly to him yesterday". Dick Durbin questioned Perdues credibility. He called the media reports a "gross misrepresentation" of the what occurred in the meeting. Durbin's intentions, saying "it is not the first time" that the IL senator has accused someone of inflammatory language. Durbin has done it. "It's not productive to solving the problem".
"Credibility is something that's built by being consistently honest over time".
Almost a year into Trump's presidency, members of Congress are still struggling to relate to the unorthodox Trump and his spontaneous, often crude remarks. "Senator Durbin has it. Senator Perdue does not. Ask anyone who's dealt with both", Marter said.
"The most disheartening thing to me is my belief that that was the first time words that hateful had been spoken in the Oval Office of the White House", Durbin added.
