India’s supreme court
Poonawala, who filed a plea in the Supreme Court seeking an independent probe into the mysterious death of Special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) judge, said, "There was Justice Loya, something went wrong and that may not be clear in public domain, needs to be clear, faith in judiciary is complete".
After meeting Chelameswar in the afternoon, Mishra said, "We have been told that there is no crisis".
He added that the media would be informed about the BCI's day-long parleys with the Supreme Court judges at a press conference tomorrow.
Romaine lettuce is a bad choice right now, health agencies warn
There's new information on the deadly E. coli outbreak that News 10 has been tracking that could be linked to romaine lettuce . The CDC says state and local health officials are interviewing patients to try to determine what they ate before getting sick.
The delegation met Justice Chelameswar at his residence and discussed the issue for around 45 minutes.
Manan Kumar Mishra and Prabhakar told this newspaper that the judges were very receptive to the suggestion to resolve the issue and expressed the hope that the CJI would soon meet the top judges or convene a Full Court meeting to find ways and means to put an end to the imbroglio that has dent the image of the judiciary.
A source privy to the meetings said one of the judges told Mishra that the dispute was not personal and the issues raised were exclusively in the interest of the institution. He added that the retired judges' views were similar to those voiced by four judges in the presser. The four judges alleged that cases having far-reaching consequences for the nation and the institution had been assigned by the CJI selectively to benches "of their preference". The four rebellious judges had raised a question over the allocation of Loya's case to Justice Mishra.
They expressed a grave concern that cases are not being allocated in a proper manner and are being allocated arbitrarily to particular designated benches, often headed by junior judges, in an arbitrary manner.
"The statement of the four judges has given the impression that the junior Supreme Court Judges are not competent enough", the committee said. "We, therefore, urge you to take immediate steps in this regard".
BCI President Manan Mishra has said it was "most unfortunate" that the four judges held a press conference, sending out a message that all was not well with the Supreme Court and that the issue should have been "sorted out internally". "He should have called a meeting to handle things", the Delhi Bar Association was quoted by news agency ANI.
