Mud Slams Into Homes And Clogs Roads In Fire-Scorched California

A mudslide damages as home after series of storms Friday Feb. 10 2017 in Orinda Calif
Five of the bodies were found in Montecito, near Los Angeles, said Captain Dave Zaniboni of the Santa Barbara County Fire Department.
DeGeneres also posted how she loves "being part of the Montecito community".
The death toll remains at 15, with 24 people missing.
Evacuation orders were issued Monday as forecasters predicted mudslides in areas where the state's largest fire raged last month. Southern California was also the site of tremendous wildfires in December 2017 that killed two people, destroyed 300 acres of forest and caused $3 billion in damages - making them the most destructive fires in California history.
Montecito, one of the areas hardest hit by the mudslides, is a wealthy enclave of about 9,000 people - and home to celebrities including Oprah Winfrey, Rob Lowe and Ellen DeGeneres. Several homes were swept away before dawn Tuesday when mud and debris roared into neighborhoods in Montecito from hillsides stripped of vegetation during the Thomas wildfire.
Many places will require days of work for the clean-up to be finished and the costs of fix are likely to be significant with the extensive damage to many multi.million dollar properties, some of whom only just escaped destruction in the fires before being hit by this flooding.
Officials say Highway 121 between Wild Horse Valley Road and Wooden Valley Road remains closed.
In an interview with CBS on Wednesday morning, Santa Barbara County Sheriff Bill Brown said officials are continuing to work to identify and rescue those who are trapped in areas they haven't been able to reach yet.
A storm that slammed a California coastal community is over.
Winfrey posted a video on Instagram showing her wading through almost knee-deep mud on her Montecito property.
First responders on Tuesday were plucking people from vehicles trapped in unsafe flooding and debris triggered by heavy overnight rainfall in California.
Between 12 and 24 people who were believed to in the area at the time of the slides remained unaccounted for, said Chris Elms, a spokesman for state firefighters.
