John Dickerson replaces Charlie Rose on 'CBS This Morning'

Newly named

John Dickerson, CBS News anchor, was named co-host of CBS This Morning on Tuesday.

Rose was sacked by CBS and other employers in November after the Washington Post reported on a series of harassment allegations in Rose's past.

In response to the stories, CBS severed ties with Rose, who also contributed to the network's long-running newsmagazine 60 Minutes, with PBS dropping his eponymous interview show.

Rose apologized "for my inappropriate behavior" and said "I am greatly embarrassed".

The move the latest in a series of on-air changes at CBS News.

John Dickerson with his new "CBS This Morning" co-hosts, Gayle King, left, and Norah O'Donnell. Will the addition of Dickerson cause new viewers to sample the show and help grow the overall audience? In 2015, he was named host of "Face the Nation", succeeding its legendary host and anchor, Bob Schieffer.

Pink will join the ranks of previous Super Bowl national anthem singers Luke Bryan, Lady Gaga and Idina Menzel. We already are aware that renaissance man Justin Timberlake will be the halftime performer for the game.

"Few people possess John's intellect, curiosity and journalistic chops", said Ryan Kadro, executive producer of "CBS This Morning".

Dickerson will join CBS This Morning as the network continues to recover from Rose's downfall, after the Washington Post and other outlets reported allegations of years of sexual misconduct by Rose against dozens of women in November. Hill was later replaced by Norah O'Donnell, and now Dickerson will replace Rose, making King the only original host. While "CBS This Morning" trails rivals "Today" and "Good Morning America" on NBC and ABC, respectively, in viewership, it has made significant ratings strides for CBS with a mix of hard-news focus and serious discussion about the headlines of the day.

Virginia native Dickerson, 49 - son of pioneering newswoman Nancy Dickerson - was a correspondent for Time and Slate before joining CBS in 2009 as an analyst before becoming political director. "CBS This Morning" is in its closest competitive position with "Today" in at least three decades and in almost two decades.
