Spy thriller "Red Sparrow" stars Oscar victor Jennifer Lawrence as a deadly seductress.
When she suffers a career-ending injury, Dominika and her mother are facing a bleak and uncertain future. With few funds to help her ailing mother, she's borderline blackmailed by a secret intelligence service into enduring the sadistic Sparrow School that transforms her into an expert manipulator, seductress, and living weapon. Brutal training subsequently shapes Dominika into the most risky operative the service has ever produced.
A attractive young woman with considerable ballerina training is transformed by her nefarious Russian superiors (through a covert-ops program) to be a world-class assassin and spy. At some point, she's put on the case of a possible Russian defector, but it seems that along the way she falls for an American CIA agent played by Joel Edgerton-a mere 16 years older than Lawrence, if you were keeping track.
"One of the things that drew me into the story, is that it really is a personal story for a character, which I think is pretty rare in terms of the spy genre". Once a master of deception, however, she finds her allegiances torn between her cruel Soviet overlords and an American whom she's tasked with handling - and with whom she falls into a relationship.
Check out the trailer above to see Lawrence undergo tortuous training, combat and don unrealistic swimsuits.
