In November 2017, Sears Holding announced it will close 18 Sears stores and 45 Kmart locations, including the last Kmart store in Alabama. The entire department store sector is suffering as internet sales intensify. There are about 40 employees, made up of full-time and part-time positions, who will be affected.
USA embassy announces end to visa crisis with Turkey
Turkey, while announcing the end of restrictions on visas to United States citizens, took issue with the USA declaration. Turkey responded in kind Thursday, announcing an end to restrictions on visa issuances to USA citizens.
There are Sears locations remaining open at Castleton Square Mall and in Greenwood. The company broke the news to employees on Thursday. The company has shuttered more than 400 locations in the past year, leaving it with about 875 stores.
Sears Holdings released a statement with the list that says the closures are part of an ongoing effort to "right size our store footprint in number and size". Affiliated Sears stores, under non-company ownership, closed in Newark and Christiana. After careful consideration, Macy's has made a decision to close the Novato Furniture store in mid to late March of 2018.
Nearly 400 Sears and Kmart stores were closed past year. They are will be closing in early April. The upcoming round of closures will leave it with fewer than 940 stores, down from 3,510 six years ago.
The closures are just the latest for the troubled retailer, which has weathered massive store closures amid dwindling sales and increased online competition.
Amanda Davis, Anchor in Atlanta Killed by Stroke at Airport
