Amanda Davis, Anchor in Atlanta Killed by Stroke at Airport

A local Atlanta television news anchor died Wednesday, Dec. 27, after suffering a massive stroke while she was at the airport.

The award-winning journalist was on her way to her stepfather's funeral.

The star had worked at Fox5 Atlanta for 26 years, retiring in 2013.

According to AJC.com, Davis, who was 62, was waiting to board a flight when she was stricken. She was taken to a hospital and underwent treatment but later died.

At CBS46, Davis helped launch "Good Day Atlanta" as a host in 1992 before going to evenings, and a regular segment called Wednesday's Child, which highlights foster children to be adopted each week, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported. Amanda was a morning news anchor and noon news anchor for Atlanta's station CBS 46. CBS affiliate WGCL-TV reports that Davis, the station's morning news anchor, died Wednesday night.

She was arrested and charged with DUI after driving the wrong way on Piedmont Avenue in Midtown Atlanta in 2012 while she was at WAGA.

"Her family is asking for privacy at this hard time", the station said. She talked about her struggles with alcoholism in 2016 with the newspaper, saying that she attended Alcoholics Anonymous meetings two to three times a week and saw a psychiatrist.

On December 24, Davis posted a Christmas message on Facebook that read, "The first Christmas after you lose someone is hard".
