You can now broadcast messages from Google Assistant to your Google Home devices
Alphabet's owned brand Nest also linked its devices with Google Assistant support.
The new feature should ideally work with the Google Assistant-enabled smart speakers from third-party manufacturers as well, but Google hasn't made it clear at this point. Using the ok Google command through their smartphones or Google Home speakers, users can raise the temperature, lower the temperature, and perform other tasks or requests, though ecobee doesn't explicitly mention all of the supported actions that can be initiated.
Earlier this month, Google rolled out an update for Assistant that now allows it to identify songs playing around you. You don't even need to touch the device.
You can broadcast custom messages, or have the Assistant announce automated "playful messages" and sounds.
So, you "just say "Ok Google, broadcast it's dinner time" and a dinner bell will ring on all your Google Homes". The trigger word or phrase is "Ok Google, broadcast..." and then you can go from there. It's joining a bunch of other IoT platforms, such as Alexa, Apple HomeKit, Samsung SmartThings, Wink, and IFTTT, so you have quite a few smart assistant options if you own one of these thermostats. Subsequently, every speaker synced to the user's account will broadcast the message.
"And if you're just leaving the office, you can let your family know you're coming with a simple "Ok Google, broadcast I'm on my way home!" to the Assistant on your phone, and it will broadcast to your Google Homes".
Currently, the broadcast feature is only available in English and is expected to come in more languages soon.
Adding Google Assistant Support to Ecobee doesn't mean that you can ask your Ecobee to search information for you but this can at least help you to maintain your room temperature using your Android phone.
