The company hasn't offered an explanation as to why its chose to halt the program, instead citing "program limitations" that necessitated the abrupt stop. They can bring the game they checked out back to GameStop for a full refund. It offers subscribers any used game in a store for six months in return for $60.

"We have elected to temporarily pause the roll out of the new PowerPass subscription service, based on a few program limitations we have identified", a GameStop spokesperson told Kotaku. Those stores have been told to pull all promotional materials related to the PowerPass, according to Kotaku.

Kotaku first reported the suspension of GameStop's PowerPass program.

China to celebrate Singles' Day with whopping shopping spree
More than 90 percent of Alipay orders were placed via mobile, the majority on Alibaba's main e-commerce platform Taobao.com. This year, 140,000 different merchants took part in the event, including many worldwide brands like Tampax and Asos.

Why GameStop suspended the service right after soft-launching it is unclear.

PowerPass has undergone a soft launch since its reveal in October with a full public launch slated to occur on November 19.

But according to a report from Kotaku, just days before the service's full launch on November 19th, GameStop has made a decision to "temporarily pause" the roll out of the new service.

According to Farrow, Boies now regards it as a mistake to contract with and pay contractors that "we did not select and direct". No fucking way.'" Filip reportedly contacted McGowan even after the bombshell reports about Weinstein were published last month.

For now, buying games at GameStop requires old-fashioned monetary exchange.

GameStop has already begun asking its staff to throw away the store's Holiday Guide, which featured advertising for the PowerPass service, and to replace this week's weekly ad, which also centered around the launch of the new rental program. Along similar lines, Nintendo is set to launch a Netflix-like service for classic retro games on its Switch platform in 2018. In addition, we are allowing them to pick out any Pre-Owned video game for free. The PowerPass program was just way too advanced for them to handle, giving retail employees serious issues.

Keep an eye out as GameStop provides more information about PowerPass, and possible changes to the program.
