US Special Counsel Reportedly Probing Plot To Hand Over Turkish Cleric Gulen

11 November 2017, 12:50 | Tara Lloyd

Did Flynn cut a $15 million deal with the Turks — during the transition?

Special Counsel Robert Mueller is reportedly probing the plan to kidnap a cleric put him on a private plane and fly him to a Turkish prison island- in which the two Flynn would be paid $15 million

The Alliance for Shared Values, a group representing Gülen supporters in the US, said: "The US justice system should be commended for not giving in to the Turkish government's campaign against Mr Gülen, no matter how nefarious a plan the Erdogan regime could concoct nor how much money it could offer people who might entertain such plans".

Turkish government accuses Fethullah Gulen and his supporters of masterminding the July 15, 2016 coup attempt, a claim the Muslim cleric and his movement deny.

Federal Bureau of Investigation agents have asked at least four people about a meeting in mid-December at the 21 Club in Manhattan, where Flynn and Turkish government officials discussed removing Gulen, according to the report.

News' report does not have any information about the nature of the meeting, although it says that it is reviewing emails sent from Flynn's firm to Rohrabacher's staff thanking them for arranging the meeting.

The employee in question was a part-time contractor, not part of Twitter's full-time staff, according to media reports. But deleting the Twitter feed of the most powerful man in the world, if only for a few minutes, is truly epic.

Multiple sources have told NBC News that Mueller has gathered enough evidence to lead to an indictment in the investigation into Flynn and his son.

The alleged December meeting followed one on September 19 attended by people including Berat Albayrak, who is Turkey's energy minister and the son-in-law of Erdogan, and Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu, according to the Journal.

In March, Flynn registered as a foreign agent and revealed that his company, Flynn Intel Group Inc., received $530,000 during the later months of the election to lobby the USA government on behalf of Turkey.

Flynn is already being investigated as part of Mueller's probe into Russian interference in the 2016 election.

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has long sought for the U.S.to extradite Gulen, who resides in the United States. It was revealed afterward that during the election and transition Flynn was working as a foreign agent on behalf of Turkey.

Flynn allegedly discussed the plot at a meeting in NY in December 2016, when he was a member of then U.S. President-elect Donald Trump's transition team. The administration says that Flynn was let go for lying to Vice President Mike Pence about his interactions with Russian ambassador Sergey Kislyak.

All the while new reports regarding the investigation's latest developments continue to turn up, like a recent Wall Street Journal article detailing a lucrative financial deal between the Flynns and Turkey.

Weinstein's representative, Sallie Hofmeister, says the 65-year-old Oscar victor denies any allegations of non-consensual sex. Weinstein's representative did not respond to CNN's request for comment regarding de La Huerta's allegations on Friday.

Investigators are also looking into the actions of his son, Michel Flynn Jr, who worked closely with him at Flynn Intel Group. The very day Trump was elected, the retired lieutenant general published an op-ed in The Hill calling for the U.S.to not give "safe haven" to Gulen, whom he branded a "radical Islamist" - all without disclosing that he was being paid handsomely for this lobbying.
