The adoption centers in Bihar have come under the police scanner after a three-year-old child from an orphanage here, who was adopted by a Keralite couple and taken to the U.S., went missing and was reportedly killed.

Richardson police spokesman Sgt. Kevin Perlich said Tuesday that the investigation is continuing, despite the revised statement.

Mathews has been charged with injury to a child, which is a first-degree felony and is punishable by up to life in prison, The Washington Post reported. His bond was set at $1 million in Richardson.

Wesley didn't alert authorities that Sherin was missing until five hours later. "It is possible there would be additional arrests or modifications of the charges as the investigation proceeds", he said.

Heather Todd said Prince has rented a three-bedroom town house since November 2014 and lives there with his girlfriend. Sheriff Jeffrey Gahler called the shooting "one of the most heinous acts we've ever seen in our county".

In a statement to police October 23, girl's father said she choked on her milk and died and that he removed her body from the home. He was initially charged with abandoning or endangering a child after reporting the girl missing.

Wesley Mathews had said that he made his adopted daughter Sherin Mathews stand outside near a tree at 3 a.m.as punishment more than two weeks ago for not drinking her milk, and that she disappeared, CNN reported.

Police said the medical examiner has not yet determined a cause of death, and an autopsy hasn't been released. Perlich said Mathews previously told police that the girl had developmental disabilities and was malnourished when they adopted her from India. Sherin's heart-wrenching story has led some to raise questions on how people treat their adopted children with some saying that the "adopters abandoned her". Mathews said he decided at that point to do laundry while he waited for daylight to look for the girl or for her to return.

Another neighbour Barabara Diamond Johnson asked why did not Wesley wake his nurse wife as Sherin choked to death, especially when she is a registered nurse at Children's hospital Dallas. He confessed to the crime, however, after Sherin's body was found. The child began coughing and choking, her breathing slowed and then there was no longer any pulse, he told police.

Mathews admitted to investigators that he removed the body from the home.

At about 8 a.m., he called police to report Sherin missing. "We do have the names of some relatives who have expressed interest in taking care of her", Gonzales said.
