Bangladesh frets about population boom in Rohingya camps
Fighting in Myanmar's northern Rakhine state has forced 422,000 Rohingya to seek refuge in neighboring Bangladesh, where unofficial shelters have sprung up outside of two government-run camps.
Turkey has been at the forefront of providing aid to Rohingya refugees and President Recep Tayyip Erdogan raised the issue during his address at the UN General Assembly on Tuesday. "They are illegal immigrants", he said. "We - the humanitarian agencies on the ground - are now a long way from being able to provide this, given the numbers and the speed at which people have arrived and continue to arrive".
"Maritime surveillance aircraft, including Dornier, hovercraft and patrolling ships of the border guarding forces have been activated in the entire region to prevent the influx of Rohingya, who are seen as a major threat to national security by the centre", a senior government official was quoted as saying by India Today.
In 2015, a crackdown by Thai authorities on human trafficking activities saw migrants from Myanmar and Bangladesh abandoned at sea by smugglers.

Almost 400,000 Rohingya refugees have fled into Bangladesh since late August during the outbreak of violence in the Rakhine state as recent satellite images released by Amnesty International provided evidence that security forces were trying to push the minority Muslim group out of the country.
