US Secret Service says it does not have Trump tapes

If there are tapes can the White House be forced to turn them over

The Wall Street Journal cautioned readers not to jump to conclusions when it published the Secret Service's response to the publication's Freedom of Information Act request.

While the Secret Service says they found no such records, the type of records they searched for are often under the purview of the National Archives and Records Administration, which told the paper that its records were not subject to FOIA requests while the president is in office.

One big strike against President Trump's insinuation that recordings of White House conversations might exist: The Secret Service isn't aware of any.

The issues related to so called secret tapes came up in days after U.S. President Donald Trump fired former FBI Director James Comey.
